It’s been a few years now, and social networking has become more common than personal networking. If you want to get something off the ground these days, it’s not about getting the big guys to give you the go ahead and achieve, it’s all up to the consumers. With all this data flying around the cybersphere, many are left wondering why they still don’t seem to get exactly what they want. Well, you can’t please everyone; but with tools like Facebook, brands are more able to get inside their customers’ heads. Zo you have the tool, now how to use it…
Photos: We’ve heard it said before, ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’, so why would brands only use their Facebook pages to push a bunch of written content. Try adding some pictures to the mix, and even a few strategically placed videos, to get your fans clicking that coveted ‘Like” button more often; with a ‘Want” just on the horizon! A bonus to having a picture worth a thousand words, or a video worth a million, is that each post of this nature will you give you the chance to tell an entire story; without writing a word.
Decisions: Something fun to do with your fans, that not enough brands are doing, is offering them the chance to ‘help’ generate content for your page. You might try adding an interesting brand relevant picture, and then promoting a contest to your fans in which they would decide how to best describe the photo. The winner could receive a prize, but generally the satisfaction of beating out other fans is aweZOme enough. People like to win!

Questions: The best way to get someone to engage in a conversation isn’t by talking at them, rather by posing a question to which they can respond. Another fun fact: People like to be heard. Don’t just post questions about your brand or your stores or your products; try getting a little more personal with your fans. They appreciate the connection, and you’ll appreciate the translation to sales.
Tips/Quotes: Customers on a fan page already trust the brand to a large enough extent, or else they wouldn’t be on the page; but how can they know if the ‘man behind the mirror’ zo to speak, is as knowledgeable as he or she should be? Offering some tips and quotes that are brand relevant not only aides in your effort to keep a consistent flow of information on your page, but it also will display that this page is a place of expertise for fans and customers to rely on! Don’t underestimate the power of free information.
Conform: That sounds counter intuitive, right? What it really means is, try to stay true to the social network you’re attempting to connect with people on. The whole idea is to make it more personal, not just send out a mass message to all of your fans, followers, pinheads, or tumblrs. Make each and every social network feel special; if you’re posting to Facebook, leave out the hashtags.
